Information

A hammock and sheet or light blanket are indispensable for a trip to the Amazon, especially when travelling by boat. If necessary we can assist in buying them in Manaus.

We advice to bring both long and short trousers, t-shirts for canoe outings and long sleeves for hikes in the forest, swimming costume and towel, trainers, sandals, a hat for the sun and a light waterproof jacket.

For seeing animals we advise binoculars and a torch for night outings. Also bring a waterproof bag for cameras etc.

Health Advice

In Brazil no vaccinations are obligatory but it is advisable to have a yellow fever shot. Malaria medicine is a personal choice. VisitAmazonia recommends the following medical advice: bring any medicines you normally use, insect repellent, antihistamine and sun protection cream.

Useful Advice

It is important to be aware that:
In the forest there are no shops and all personal items have to be brought by visitors ( for example soft drinks, beer, batteries, toiletries etc.)
The inhabitants of the villages make handicrafts ( jewelry and household items) so it is necessary to have local currency for any purchases.
There is no cell phone coverage in the area. There is no set program. When they arrive tourists are introduced to their guide and together with him agree all daily outings and excursions. This way visitors can decide to go into the forest, out in canoes, fishing trips, visits to the community and relax on the beaches. Donations of medicines, clothes, school material etc are welcome.
We attempt to recycle rubbish but ask all visitors to remove used batteries and other non disposable waste when they leave.

Costs and Conditions

The total cost of the trip is agreed with the organizers and depends on the length of stay, the time of year, the means of transportation used to get to Xixuau, on the type of trip and the number of participants.

The minimum trips (including river travel) and the price include:

- Transfer from Manaus to Novo Ayrao;
- Novo Airao- Xixuau return;
- Full board;
- Day and night outings with the guide;
- Camping out in the forest (by choice);
- Internet connection.

The cost does not include transportation to Manaus, extras (beer etc) and anything else not mentioned.
