Where we are
The town of Novo Airao is around 150 kms from Manaus on the Rio Negro.
From there we leave for all trips around the Novo Airao, along the Rio Negro and to the Xixuau Reserve, in the South of the State of Roraima, 500 kms North West of Manaus the capital of Amazonas, and 70 kms South of the Equator, along the Rio Jauaperi, a tributary of the Rio Negro.
The area measures 178.000 hectares of primary forest, in part unexplored. The Xixuau reserve was created by a group of local inhabitants, Caboclos, thanks to their profound knowledge of the forest.
The Reserve is on the Rio Jauaperi, in the far south of the state of Roraima, in a region called Baixo Rio Branco.
The area is covered by intact primary forest and is considered of high priority for the conservation of Amazonian biodiversity because it is influenced by waters of diverse chemical composition: dark waters of the Rio Negro, brown water of the Jauaperi and white water of the Rio Branco.
